It’s Just So Closed Off

“Our house has you feeling claustrophobic?” asks Will.

Crystal nods slowly. “Yeah, I just feel closed off from everyone, especially in the kitchen. The kitchen itself feels smaller than it used to be, too. That’s why I say we look into home renovations.”

Will frowns worriedly. “I know exactly where you’re coming from with the closed-off feeling. But, how much does a home renovation cost? If we knew that then we could decide what to do.”

Crystal pulls her phone out and starts typing. “I’m going to look around Google and see what answers I can find. Maybe a local contractor will have a home renovations information page.”

Here’s what Crystal and Will discover:

How Much A Home Renovation Costs

A home renovation can cost between $150,000 and $400,000, though it can be higher. It depends on the extent of the renovation, house size, the age of your house, if you choose any upgrades, the materials you choose, and if there are any damages that need fixing.

Base Home Renovation Cost – $150,000. 2,000 square foot home. This includes a brand new finish on all your floors and a complete house repaint. We also give your kitchen and bathroom a simple remodel, replace all your trims, and create a new lighting layout.

Home Renovation Average Cost – $250,000. 2,000 square foot home. We reconfigure some of the walls, give your floors a brand new finish, repaint your whole home, remodel your kitchen and bathroom, install new trims, and create a new lighting layout.

High-End Home Renovation Cost – $400,000. 2,000 square foot home. We do a full reconfiguration of the walls where necessary and fully upgrade and update your rooms, including remodeling the kitchen and bathroom. This also includes building an addition.

The Main Factors That Can Change Home Renovation Costs

The extent of the renovation – Renovating one room vs your entire home will change the amount of time, labor, and materials needed. This can cause the cost to go up or down.

House size – For whole home renovations, larger houses tend to cost more. This is because they take more time, materials, and labor. Smaller whole house renovations can still be pricey depending on your material choice and the other factors listed here.

Age of your house – Older homes tend to need more repairs and upgrades during renovations. This can increase the overall home renovation cost.

Upgrades – You can have better lighting, higher-quality flooring, natural stone countertops, and more! Upgrades will increase your home renovation price, but you’ll love the look so much more.

Materials – Higher quality materials cost more because they’re harder to come by, they tend to look better for longer, and they give a luxurious, elegant feel to your home. Lower quality materials can still look amazing and at a much lower cost.

Damages – We can find damages like wood rot and moisture damage before and during your home renovation. We’ll stop working and talk to you about what steps you’d like to take.
